His due date was Christmas Eve, but he kept hubby and I waiting until he finally arrived on New Years Day. Ever since that day 9 years ago, New Years Day
in our house has been as magical as Christmas Day! Before having him the hubby and I would spend New Years Day quietly watching the TV and recovering from the partying and drinking the night before. However, all that is a distant memory now! We have held birthday parties for 20+ children most New Years Days, until recently when Tom (that's my son) decided he would prefer a day out on his birthday and then a party the week after! That way extending his celebrations (he's not daft!)
So this New Years Day saw us embark on the biggest adventure to date on a New Years Day! Up until now we have enjoyed a day trip to the seaside, the zoo and the cinema, but this year hubby decided we should go up to London for the day. So having booked the tickets in advance, we all woke up early, ate breakfast watched T open his presents and got in the car. We were off by 7.45am. Unsurprisingly there was little traffic on the road! We were on the tube at Hammersmith just after 9:30am! And so our adventure began.
First we headed to Westminster, we took photos by Big Ben and then headed across the bridge for a ride on the London Eye. It was brilliant. The sun was shining (lovely after all the rain recently) and Tom and Lottie loved it. After that we had a quick bite to eat and then went into The Sealife London Aquarium. It is somewhere we have never been and I would recommend it. We all loved it. So much to see and you definitely forgot you were in London!

After a trip around Hamleys, the M&M store and China Town we headed to The Rainforest Cafe for our evening meal. Another first. Wow, what a place. We were greeted by a Ranger who took our details, wished Tom a Happy Birthday and gave us our Passport. We headed down the stairs into the Rainforest. The children enjoyed it all, from sitting on the fancy animal shaped bar stools to our table by the elephants and the gorillas. The only thing Lottie wasn't too keen on was the thunder storm every half and hour. The food was expensive but delicious and the rangers (waiters) made a huge fuss of Tom.
After an exciting day we headed back to the tube and into the car for the journey back home.
Toms words "That was the best birthday ever!" A huge smile on all our faces, and then he added "I wonder what we will do next year?"
At least we have a year to plan the next one!
